Ongoing Financial Planning

At its essence, choosing to work with a financial planner is making an investment in your future. While you are busy with the details of your daily reality, I help you take time to imagine your life 3, 10 or even 30 years from now. Looking back, what does your future self want to have achieved personally, professionally and financially?

This isn’t an easy question for most people to answer. That’s why I have assessments and the framework to help you first understand your values, then your goals and lastly your priorities. Next, we’ll get to work on your customized plan. And since no one knows the future, we’ll make adjustments along the way for life’s unexpected events.

What’s it like to work with Tailored Financial Planning? Below is the big picture for the first year, and here you will find an example service calendar broken out by month.

The Process

Months 1-3

    • 30-minute free consultation to learn more about each other and see if there is a good fit

    • Meeting followed up with a personalized quote

    • Includes a series of meetings to determine your money mindset, set goals and collect all your financial information

    • Review your overall financial plan and finalize your service calendar for the year ahead

    • May include new account opening for Investment Management (optional)

Months 4-9

    • Tackle your first major planning topic, for example, college planning

    • Financial education provided along the way

    • Work together on tasks to implement the plan

    • Tackle your second major planning topic, for example, tax planning

    • Financial education provided along the way

    • Work together on tasks to implement the plan

Months 10-12

    • Review & celebrate successes of the last year

    • Complete any outstanding tasks

    • Decide on planning topics for the upcoming year

    • Review investment performance and asset allocation

You won’t be left on your own to interpret a 50-page report. I’ll walk you through the plan and we will agree on reasonable steps to take to get you closer to your goals. Then over the course of the year, I will keep you accountable to your goals with regular check-ins.

  • A. Our ongoing financial planning clients typically have the following characteristics:

    —You want to work with a trusted advisor to collaborate on your financial plan. You have the desire to implement the plan over the next few years.

    —You identify with one or more of the following: a professional who is settled in their career and has their highest-earning years still ahead, a dual-income earning family, and/or own one or more businesses.

    —Your household annual gross income is generally $150,000+ (our fees become too expensive at lower income levels)

    —You may have student loans and/or mortgage debt remaining, but generally don’t carry much credit card debt.

    —You are comfortable with using technology for a variety of purposes: uploading account statements, e-signing for new accounts, accessing your online tools and meeting virtually.

  • Many clients are in good shape after two to three years, having worked through 4-6 major planning topics that apply to their individual situation. Other clients may be happy with just one year. It’s up to you to decide- services can be terminated at any time. If you’ve signed on for investment management services, then we can continue to work together that way. However, if you needed additional financial planning work in the future, then there would be an additional new client fee to cover the cost of updating the plan.

  • Nope! I can work virtually with anyone in the United States. I have a process of sharing information safely online, and can use e-signature tools to finalize documents and open accounts.

  • No, although it makes the most sense for ongoing financial planning clients to work with me for at least one year, clients can give a 30 day notice to cancel anytime. I will refund you any fees not yet earned.
